  1. What is the Ismaili Walk for Women 2008?
    The Ismaili Walk for Women 2008 is a partnership between the Ismaili Muslim Community of British Columbia and Women’s Hospital. The event raises funds to benefit the BC Women's Health Research Institute in its endeavor to advance knowledge and care for women, newborns, and their families across British Columbia and around the world.
  2. What is the date?
    The 17th annual Ismaili Walk takes place on Sunday August 24, 2008.
  3. Where does this event take place?
    The event begins at 11am at Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park, Vancouver.
  4. How long is the walk?
    7km walk or 3.5km children/stroller walk.
  5. Is there parking?
    Yes, Stanley Park has pay parking throughout the park. There is also pay parking available for the event at the Westin Bayshore Hotel (1601 Bayshore Drive,Vancouver) with free shuttle service to and from Lumberman’s Arch from 9am-5pm.
  6. What happens after the walk?
    There will be live entertainment, including a performance by the Soul Sistas, a BBQ, a silent auction, and a variety of free fun-filled activities for the whole family. Click here for the schedule and details of the activities.
  7. How can I participate?
    You can participate by
    1. Registering to fundraise as an individual or as a team
    2. Attending the walk and participating in the Walk day activities
    3. Making a personal or corporate donation online or in person on the day of the Walk
    4. Sponsoring a participant
    5. Volunteering on walk day
  8. Are there prize incentives for collecting pledges?
    Yes! There are lots of individual and team prizes to be earned! Click here for the details.
  9. Is there a registration fee?
    No. If you raise a minimum of $100, you will get a t-shirt. Please indicate your size on the online registration.
  10. Do I get a tax receipt?
    If you have donated a minimum of $10, you will get a tax receipt.
  11. When can I expect my tax receipt?
    Online donations paid in full will be issued an electronic tax receipt immediately. Offline donations and donations made in instalments are processed manually. Please allow 10 days for your tax receipt to arrive by mail.
  12. What do I do with the monies I raised offline?
    Hand in all the monies that you have raised to the Registration Tent on Walk Day along with a print out of the monies that you have raised online. The Registration Tent will be open starting at 9am. All funds raised need to handed in by 11am to qualify for the incentive prizes.
  13. Where does my donation go?
    100% of the net proceeds go towards the Women's Health Research Institute in its endeavor to advance knowledge and care for women, newborns, and their families across British Columbia and around the world.
  14. How do I participate in the Amazing Race event?
    All youth aged 13-25 years are welcome to participate. Register your team of 4 by clicking here. If you do not have a team of 4, please contact us by filling out the form at the bottom of this page and we will connect you with team members. Registration deadline is August 17.   15. How do I participate in the Youth Soccer Tournament?
    All kids aged 5-13 are encouraged to come out and participate. Click here for more details and how you can win prizes.
  16. What are the silent auction items?
    There are lots of fabulous items this year! Visit the Silent Auction Tent on Walk day to place your bid. Click here for the list of descriptions of the items up for auction.
  17. What is there for lunch?
    You can purchase vouchers for a delicious BBQ lunch or for snacks from the Snack Tent. There will be BBQ chicken, beef, and vegetarian burgers, our famous bhajias, pastries, and more.
  18. What is the history of the Ismaili Walk?
    The Ismaili Walk was founded in 1992 by the Ismaili Muslim Community of BC. It takes place in Vancouver near the end of the summer and benefits a local non-profit organization. The Walk raises funds to further the mandate of partner non-profit organizations that have included local hospitals, the Vancouver Public Library, Simon Fraser University, the Food Bank, Habitat for Humanities, the Crisis Center of Greater Vancouver and United Way. To date, the Walk has raised over $2.5M for local community organizations. For the past five years, the Ismaili Walk for Kids supported the United Way Success By 6 programs and services dedicated to giving children age 0 to 6 the foundation they need to get a good start in life. This year a new partnership has been formed that benefits the Women's Health Research Institute at BC Women’s Hospital & Health Centre in its endeavor to advance knowledge and care for women, newborns, and their families across British Columbia and around the world.
  19. Where are the washrooms?
    Washrooms are located near the Lumberman's Arch – Under the By-pass.

  21. When does the last Shuttle Bus leave?
    The last Jamatkhana bus will leave at 4:00 PM prompt in the parking lot behind the Barbeque area. The last bus to the Bayshore Inn will leave the site at 5:00pm.

  23. How can I learn more about the Women's Health Research Institute?

  25. Where do I go in case of an emergency?
    Please visit the Ambulance for medical assistance. The designated marshalling areas are near the Ambulance, and on the field behind the registration tent.
  26. Is it possible to enter the Amazing Race as an individual?
    You can't compete as an individual on the day, but if you need to make up numbers in your team, we're happy to help you find team mates. Please email us and we'll work out a team for you.
